About myLPA Guide

Plain-English help for making a Lasting Power of Attorney in England and Wales — built by people who believe protecting your future shouldn't cost the earth.

Who built myLPA Guide

myLPA Guide is an online service that helps ordinary people prepare their own Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) documents without paying hundreds of pounds to a solicitor. It was built by a small UK team of product designers, software engineers and estate-planning specialists who kept hearing the same thing from friends and family: the official government forms are free, but filling them in correctly feels daunting, and the legal jargon puts people off doing one of the most important things they can for their loved ones.

So we set out to do one thing well — turn the official LPA forms into a simple, guided conversation that anyone can complete from home in about fifteen minutes, with no legal background required.

The company behind it

myLPA Guide is a service operated by Project Will Ltd, a UK company registered in England and Wales. Project Will Ltd builds accessible tools that help people handle important life-planning tasks — powers of attorney, wills and end-of-life paperwork — clearly, affordably and on their own terms. Everything you read on this site, and every document our tool produces, is published under that company.

Why we created it

Here is the situation that frustrated us. The Lasting Power of Attorney forms published by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) are completely free to download and use. You do not legally need a solicitor to make an LPA. And yet most high-street solicitors charge between £400 and £900 to fill in those same free forms on your behalf — often more if you want both the property & financial affairs LPA and the health & welfare LPA.

For many families that price tag is the reason an LPA never gets done at all. People put it off, assume it must be expensive and complicated, and then a crisis arrives — a stroke, dementia, a sudden accident — and the family discovers far too late that nobody has the legal authority to manage money or make care decisions.

myLPA Guide closes that gap. We guide you through every section in plain English, explain what each question actually means, fill the official wording in for you, and let you preview the finished document before you commit. Our pricing starts from £39 — a fraction of typical solicitor fees — and there is never any pressure to upgrade to something you don't need.

How we compare to a solicitor

It is important to be honest about what we are and what we are not. myLPA Guide is a document preparation and software service — we give you the tools and guidance to complete your own LPA. We are not a law firm, and we do not give legal advice tailored to your personal circumstances.

  • A solicitor can give bespoke legal advice, handle unusual or contested situations, and take professional responsibility for your documents — typically for £400–£900 per LPA.
  • myLPA Guide gives you a guided, plain-English route through the standard official forms from £39, ideal for the great majority of people whose affairs are straightforward.

If your estate is complex — for example you own a business, have assets abroad, are involved in a dispute, or have concerns about mental capacity — we will always recommend you speak to a qualified solicitor before signing.

How our content is reviewed

Accuracy matters to us, because people make real decisions based on what they read here. Every guide on myLPA Guide is reviewed against the current Office of the Public Guardian rules and the latest official LPA forms before it is published, and re-checked whenever the government updates its guidance.

Our content is reviewed by Eleanor Whitfield, LPA & Estate Planning Specialist, who checks each page for accuracy and makes sure the wording stays clear, correct and up to date. Where the rules are genuinely nuanced, we say so rather than over-simplifying.
